Terms of Use

Short version: the core of Psalmwell is free forever, there are no ads, what you write is yours, Pro is one price that stays bought, and every text in the app is in the public domain and credited by name.

Your licence, and Apple's

WANG WENJIE grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Psalmwell on Apple devices you own or control. That licence sits on top of Apple's own Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (the standard Apple EULA), which applies to this app in full; where these terms and Apple's EULA disagree, Apple's EULA wins. The app itself — its code, its artwork, its interface text and the thirty-day devotional material written for it — remains ours. Please do not copy it, resell it, take it apart or work backwards from it.

Apple is not a party to these terms, is not responsible for the app, and has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

What you write is yours

You own every prayer, note and answer you write in Psalmwell. We claim no rights over any of it, we never see it, and we make no copy of it. Because there is no copy on a server of ours, losing this device or deleting the app means losing what was on it unless you had switched on iCloud backup or exported it yourself. The Privacy Policy describes exactly where it lives.

Free forever

These five things do not expire, are not on a timer and will not later be moved behind a payment:

And no advertising — including in the free version. Everything you have already written stays readable whether or not you ever buy anything; the daily limit applies to writing a fourth entry in one day, never to reading or keeping what is already there.

Psalmwell Pro — two plans, and there is no weekly one

Pro unlocks seven things: unlimited prayer journal entries; every 30-day theme pack; the full year of public-domain classics; the Lock Screen widget; PDF export and the Answered prayer book; the year-in-review card; and encrypted backup to your own iCloud.

Forever — US$29.99, one time. A non-consumable in-app purchase. It is not a subscription and it never renews. It is tied to the Apple Account that bought it and can be restored on your other devices with "Restore purchases".
Yearly — US$14.99 per year. An auto-renewing subscription. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings.

There is no weekly plan and no free trial. Prices above are in US dollars; the App Store shows the exact amount in your own currency on the purchase screen, and nothing is charged until you confirm. Prices may change in future releases; a change never reaches a purchase you have already made, and a one-time purchase already made is not converted into a subscription.

Payment, cancellation and refunds

All purchases are made through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple is the merchant. To cancel the yearly subscription, open Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions on your device and turn off renewal for Psalmwell; it stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, and we do not pro-rate an unused part of a period. Refunds are requested from Apple, under Apple's own policy — we cannot issue them. If you believe something went wrong with a purchase, write to us anyway and we will help you work out what happened.

The texts in the app, and their attribution

Every scripture and devotional text Psalmwell ships is in the public domain:

Berean Standard Bible (BSB) — released into the public domain on 30 April 2023.
King James Version (KJV) — public domain in the United States.
Charles Spurgeon, Morning and Evening — public domain.
Daily Light on the Daily Path — public domain.

Each is credited by name where it appears in the app, and the full list is in Settings → Texts and licences. Psalmwell does not include NIV, ESV or NLT, because those translations cannot be licensed for an app like this one. In version 1.0 the scripture and the classics are in English only. The thirty-day theme packs were written for this app; the interface text, artwork and code are ours.

Reasonable use

Read it, write in it, print your own journal, quote a verse to a friend. Please do not redistribute the app itself, resell its content as your own product, or try to unlock Pro by other means. Public-domain texts are public domain in your hands too — that part was never ours to restrict.

Availability, and things we do not promise

Psalmwell is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise it is free of every defect, nor that a future version of iOS will leave every feature working. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for anything arising out of the app is limited to what you actually paid for it. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and nothing here limits the consumer rights your local law gives you.

A reminder in plain terms: Psalmwell is a Bible-reading and journalling app. It is not counselling, not medical or mental-health care, and not a substitute for talking to someone. If you are in crisis, please reach out to a person — your local emergency number, a doctor, or someone you trust.

Changes to these terms

If the app changes in a way that affects anything above, this document and the copy inside the app are updated in the same release, and the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use the app after an update means accepting the updated terms.
